No Red Steel in 2009

Game delays are a constant source of frustration for gamers. Today Ubisoft adds to our collective anger gages by pushing back a few of its top titles, including Red Steel 2, Splinter Cell Conviction, I Am Alive, and Ghost Recon.
"We are disappointed that we have to postpone the release of several major games but we consider that this choice is the best one in the long-term interests of Ubisoft. Lastly, we are having to adjust our full-year targets to take into account the fall in business over the first half. The excellent response to our games at E3, as well as the high buzz generated for titles such as Assassin's Creed 2, Splinter Cell Conviction and Avatar, reinforce our belief that the company can achieve strong growth in the second half of the fiscal year."
-Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot
Red Steel 2 and Splinter Cell are now expected to be released between January and March 2010, making the holiday game list a bit shorter.

Steak + Babies / Lions = E10 rating

Scribblenauts is set to be one of the most creative and open ended games to date. With all this creativity the ESRB was sure to find something they disagreed with. This is their summery of the game :
"This is a puzzle game in which players navigate a series of traps, puzzles, and enemies to collect stars scattered throughout the colorful levels. Players have the ability to summon different objects by writing/typing in the word (e.g., bike, spaceship, lion) and watching it come to life. If multiple words are entered in a sequence, different whimsical scenarios can be triggered: a bicycle can be used to jump over a baby; a bulldozer can clear away a shark; and cabbage can be fed to dinosaurs. Players can elect to summon “cartoony” versions of bats, bombs, guns, and flamethrowers. These types of items can be used to destroy objects or even other summoned items (e.g., a club can be used to hit an animal; steak can be attached to a baby to attract lions; rockets can be lobbed at a man). These triggered animations are minimally depicted and are usually accompanied by popping, musical sound effects; bright, star-shaped flashes; or small puffs of smoke. If players wish to, they may type in the word vomit, which causes a beige-colored lump to appear on the screen."

So, basically, this statement has insured the first thing I do when I get the game is attach a steak to a baby in order to attract a lion. Also, it makes me wonder how many diabolical things i can do with this game. If I summon a baby and a dingo... will the dingo eat it?? *evil smile*

GTA on the Psp.... again

This boxart is obviously fake, but the story isn't,Rockstar announced today that it would be releasing GTA: Chinatown wars on the Psp, yeah the Ds exclusive.... The one we all should've bought because it got great reviews.... yeah, that one. Now it's going to be available on the Psp and downloadable to PspGo. I'm intrested to see how it sells on the Psp, though if it does better it might make me feel shamed.

Cambridge, MA – June 5, 2009 – As previously announced, Harmonix Music, the leading developer of music-based games, and MTV Games, a part of Viacom’s MTV Networks, (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), along with distribution partner Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), will offer 12 tracks from Iron Maiden, one of the world’s most successful rock bands, June 9 in the Rock Band® Music Store of downloadable content for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the Wii™ system.

The release of these downloadable tracks coincides with the U.S. release of Flight 666 on Blu-ray and DVD as well as a double-CD soundtrack album and limited edition double-vinyl picture disc. Flight 666 documents the first leg of Maiden’s legendary SOMEWHERE BACK IN TIME WORLD TOUR, which took them 50,000 miles around the planet, playing 23 concerts on five continents in just 45 days. One of the stars of the movie is the band’s customized Boeing 757, Ed Force One, which carried the band, all their crew and 12 tons of stage equipment and was piloted by Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson, a fully qualified and active Airline Captain with Astraeus Airlines.

Live recordings of “Aces High,” “Hallowed Be Thy Name,” “Fear of the Dark” and “Iron Maiden,” featured on Flight 666, are among those available for download in the Rock Band Music Store June 9. The other eight songs were among those featured on the band’s Somewhere Back in Time World Tour during the first leg of which Flight 666 was filmed. This will mark the first time master recordings from Iron Maiden have been made available on Rock Band games.

“Fans have been asking us to do something with Rock Band for some time, and this seemed to be a perfect opportunity,” said Maiden manager Rod Smallwood. “Our recent Somewhere Back in Time tour was perhaps the most enjoyable one we have ever undertaken and certainly the most successful with almost 2 million people catching the shows around the world. So it just seemed a good idea to make some of the songs we played available now so fans can play along with the band on the tour. Then we shall see if they can keep up with the band!!”

You Got The Megaton Hammer!

After a few days of speculation, Nintendo has went ahead and released the new Zelda Wii artwork that Shigeru Miyamoto revealed on June 2nd. There's not much to say about it since it's well, artwork, but it's nice to see the high res image (click it to make it bigger). I wonder who that ghost-like lady is.. Thoughts?

Is that.... Miyamoto??

*GASP!* It IS! He's looking at the Psp Go, Sony's latest hand held. Looks like he's checking out the competition. Or maybe he just wants to play a game... not like he's going to buy one... right?
Interview with Miyamoto here.

Iwata Asks: Wii Motion Plus

One of the best things about Nintendo, I think, is having a president that asks the R&D team tough questions. This time, Iwata asks them a question we've all been wondering "Why wasn't Wiimotion plus included in the Wiimote to being with?" The answer, as you have probably guessed.... cost. Read the full round table here.

Snake? Snake? Snaaaaaaaaaaake!

There was tons of news at this years E3 about Metal gear solid. First we had Metal Gear Rising, the more action based game staring Riden, which we thought was an Xbox 360 exclusive, which it isn't. Then they gave us Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the Psp. Lastly, and most oddly, Kojima announced Metal Gear Soild: Arcade... Aparently, Arcades do much better in Japan than here in the U.S. Details about this game are limited, other than it carries the tagline Tactical Online Action and will be played with "3d" goggles. Sounds intresting, however, I highly doubt it will come stateside. Who's up for a trip to Japan?
